CBD and Pain Relief
The use of CBD for pain relief
Pain tells us that something is not working properly, it is our nervous system warning us that something is wrong. We can describe it as an unpleasant sensation: pins and needles, discomfort, burning, stinging, tingling…
There are two types of pain: acute and chronic. Acute pain is a warning that the body has an injury. It does not last long and disappears when recovering from the injury or when the body heals. Chronic pain, on the other hand, can last for months or years.
Logically, because it lasts so long, chronic pain is quite disabling for day-to-day activities, impairing quality of life. People with chronic pain have their moods greatly affected and may become depressed.
Many older people suffer from chronic pain, and the increase in life expectancy contributes to the fact that this coexistence with pain will last longer.
People are looking for new non-addictive ways to treat pain.
CBD (cannabidiol) has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties proven by several studies. More and more people are using it to reduce pain instead of addictive opioid medications.
Using CBD products does not create dependence, as confirmed by the World Health Organization. This cannabinoid, the main component of hemp strains of hemp, has no psychotropic effects and is not addictive.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is used to relieve different types of pain:
- Pain from inflammations.
- Pain due to migraines
- Chronic pain
- Menstrual pain
- Arthritic pain
- Oncologic pain
CBD for pain due to inflammation
Inflammation, a response of the organism to an aggressive agent (for example a blow, a virus, or a bacterium) is characterized by a reddening of the affected area, an increase in volume (swelling), and a sensation of heat and pain.
Inflammation is what we have and feel when, for example, we have a sore throat because we have pharyngitis or when the area of the skin where we have been bitten by an insect swells and itches.
In fact, with inflammation, the body protects itself from infections and injuries. However, the pain that accompanies inflammation can be unbearable.
CBD has been recognized by numerous studies for its anti-inflammatory properties. This makes it an optimal choice for people who have to treat short or prolonged inflammation processes. The reason is that CBD does not create dependency among those who use it.
CBD for migraines
Migraines cause intense pain in the head. They can last for hours or even days, and people who suffer from them often find that their daily activities, both social relationships and work productivity, are affected.
Migraines are often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and high sensitivity to light or sound.
Migraines are medicated to combat their effects. Unfortunately, some of the most effective medications, such as codeine, are opioids, which means they can also be highly addictive. And other conventional medications can have significant side effects.
In contrast, CBD can relieve pain, as well as associated nausea and vomiting, without any risks associated with its use.
CBD for chronic pain
According to the European Pain Federation, 20% of the world’s population suffers from chronic pain and the WHO recognizes it as a major global public health problem. To learn more about CBD for pain relief, see their article in this link.
